Consignment Software Utilities

Peeps’ Email Tester

Peeps' Email Tester

Peeps’ Email Tester is free program written by Dean @ The Computer Peeps.  I wrote this because the various consignment programs on the market, have had ongoing, serious issues with sending email.  From lack of TLS/SSL support, to reporting emails were successfully sent, when in fact nothing was sent at all.

Consignment software vendors regularly tell their users “It’s your computer“, “It’s the way you’re doing it“, “it’s your ISP“, etc.  In every instance that a consignment store owner has been referred to “find a tech to help you” and the client has come to The Computer Peeps, we have found the issue was 100% the consignment software’s fault.

This utility allows store owners to easily prove it is their outdated, legacy consignment software that is causing issues sending email — not the storeowner’s computer, ISP, or methods.

Features:

[checklist]

  • Portable .exe (requires no installation).
  • Logs all application activity for later review.
  • Compatible with TLS and SSL.
  • Easy links for inserting Google’s TLS or SSL port.
  • Easy links for emailing The Computer Peeps, or the major consignment software vendors.

Peeps’ ConsignPro DB Compactor

Peeps' ConsignPro DB Compactor

[/box]

ConsignPro utilizes a Microsoft Access database file to store your consignor and customer data.  An access database can benefit from being compacted, as well as checked for errors.

This is a very simple routine, one you can perform if you own a license for Microsoft Access.  Other than buying a license for Microsoft Access and doing this yourself, the only other way to compact and repair your ConsignPro database, was to send it off to ConsignPro to have them do it for you.

Instead, The Computer Peeps took the two lines of code it takes to do this and wrote a free, simple program that lets consignment and resale store owners safely do this themselves.

Features:

[checklist]

  • Portable .exe (requires no installation).
  • Backs-up your ConsignPro database before compact/repair.
  • Full multi-threaded application, which ensures the user interface remains responsive while the database is compacted.
  • Logs all application activity for later review.

Peeps’ Liberty DB Size Utility

Peeps' Liberty DB Size Utility

Liberty4 Consignment utilizes a very robust and stable database management system — Microsoft SQL Server.  However, Liberty 2002 and the first few years’ releases of Liberty4 Consignment, shipped with a version of MS SQL server (MS SQL 2000 MSDE) which had a known-bug — i.e. SQL Server would prematurely claim space in the database and never release it.  This leads to a premature filling of your database file.

While the database file can become huge, the actual data inside can be but a fraction of that size.  Migrating the data to a new, unaffected database file, reclaims this un-used space.

Peeps’ Liberty DB Size Utility shows the database file size, but more importantly, the actual size of the data inside.  If your database file could benefit from a data migration, it will tell you.  🙂

Features:

[checklist]

  • Portable .exe (requires no installation).
  • Communicates directly with Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Logs all application activity for later review.
  • On-screen feedback to let the user know if their database could benefit from a data migration.
  • Quick Links to start or stop MS SQL Server.

Peeps’ RWX Controller

[box]

Peeps' RWX Controller

[/box]

One of the most-common issues users of Libert4 Consignment contact The Computer Peeps for, is issues with Liberty’s RWX module.  RWX is Liberty’s background process, which is responsible for uploading consignor data for the consignor login feature, amongst other things.

RWX frequently runs into issues, but does not properly recover (See: Proper exception handling).  For example, many consignment stores don’t have extremely fast or even reliable Internet service.  If RWX is interrupted during a sync, it can simply stop working.  The process remains running and no errors are logged, but nothing is happening.

To fix, the RWX service needs to be restarted and in some cases, the XML files RWX utilizes during upload/download, need to be purged.

Peeps’ RWX Controller does all of this, so consignment and resale store owners can quickly fix RWX, while safely keeping a backup of all log files, just in case the vendor has any questions about things.  😉

Features:

[checklist]

  • Portable .exe (requires no installation).
  • Logs all application activity for later review.
  • On-screen feedback to let the user know if RWX is running or not.
  • Lets the user safely stop and start the RWX service.

Peeps’ IP Finder

Peeps' IP Finder

This is a free utility written by The Computer Peeps, for consignment and resale store owners.  Frequently, consignment and resale store owners are asked, “What is your IP address?”  Whether it’s when setting-up security cameras, or accessing their consignment software’s database via a mobile app.

Instead of trying to find one of the myriad sites that will show you your IP address, we’ve written a simple program that does this for you.

Features:

[checklist]

  • Portable .exe (requires no installation).
  • Utilizes icanhazip.com to return your store’s External IP Address.
  • Logs all application activity for later review.
  • Always On Top option.
  • Peeps’ help link

Peeps’ Liberty Task Killer

[box]

Peeps' Liberty Task Killer

[/box]

Peeps’ Liberty Task Killer has become a staple on client systems.  Due to Liberty’s exception handling issues when your network connection drops, Liberty can easily lock-up, crash, and trigger hundreds of Connection Failure pop-ups.  Instead of having to hit Ctrl + Alt + Delete, then clicking Task Manager, then the Processes tab, then each Liberty process, then End Task…you just click Peeps’ Liberty Task Killer.  🙂

Features:

[checklist]

  • Portable .exe (requires no installation).
  • Logs all application activity for later review.
  • Safely kills Liberty’s running processes (RWD.exe, RWPOS.exe, and RWReport.exe/RWReport4.exe).
  • Notification icon + on-screen log for easy-to-see, easy-to-follow feedback.
