When the Item List Email in Liberty, depending on the version of Liberty you’re running, it’ll either just *appear* to send (but didn’t), or you could get an error.
In this instance, no error appeared in Liberty — Liberty4 will just look like the email has sent, even if it didn’t. When checking the CRUFLido.log log file for Liberty’s Crystal Reports email report, it’ll show a potentially distracting error — a Local Processing Error:
The issue isn’t local at all. This error will come up if you have yet to enable the Allow less secure apps setting in Gmail:
In order for ‘outside applications’ to be able to send email using your Gmail settings, this has to be switched to the On position:
Once enabled and if you have a valid Gmail + password (+ SMTP Settings) entered, you should be able to send the Item List Email. 🙂
How Does It Get Turned Off?
It’s off by default, so if you’re just setting-up your email settings in programs like Liberty, chances are this is still off. If you’ve been sending emails for a period of time and then it gets turned back off again, it likely means you or someone who uses your Gmail, got a prompt to ‘Review Account Security Settings’. If ‘Yes, Update My Settings’ is clicked, it’s going to turn this off again. The prompt to review settings in and of itself, is a good thing — Google’s just trying to make sure you have a strong password and are aware of various security options that can help secure your account. If you click that button without checking which settings it’s about to adjust, chances are it’s going to switch-off that setting and you’ll no longer be able to send emails from within programs like Liberty. 🙁
